This antibody is specific for PD-L1 protein, ligand of immune checkpoint receptor PD-1. Cancer cells and the cells of the surrounding microenvironment have been shown to upregulate the expression of components to suppress the antitumor immune response by generating coinhibitory signals. PD-1 and CTLA-4 emerged as the most successful immune targets for anticancer therapies. The PD-1/PD-L1 and CTLA-4 axis also has become a focus of SARS-CoV-2 research, as PD-L1 and CTLA-4 mediated T-cell dysfunction and exhaustion is observed in symptomatic COVID-19 patients. This PD-L1 antibody shows no cross-reaction with SARS-CoV or MERS-CoV spike proteins.
