Obesity and Metabolism

Research Reagents from Rockland, GeneTex and more

Obesity is correlated with metabolic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis. This is why the World Health Organization WHO has recognised the need to tackle the global obesity crisis for many years now. Research in this area is important to fully understand the metabolic processes involved and to develop preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Together with our experienced partners, we support your obesity and metabolism research with helpful educational ressources and high-quality reagents and tools.

Alpco

Alpco: Diabetes & Obesity Protein Biomarkers

Diabetes and obesity are complex conditions related to physiological imbalances. Researchers study many hormones to explore how pancreatic islet cell function, paracrine signaling, and energy homeostasis interplay in metabolic disorders.

ALPCO’s portfolio of assays are optimized for range, sensitivity, sample type, and time. Leverage multiple formats – colorimetric or chemiluminescent ELISA, RIA – for manual or automated workflows.Their brochure 'Diabetes & Obesity Protein Biomarkers' gives an overview over the most important available biomarkers.

BioVendor: Human ELISA kits for obesity biomarkers

BioVendor develops immunoassays for the detection of newly identified protein markers, with high assay sensitivity, an emphasis on superior analytical characteristics and user-friendly kit performance. BioVendor Human ELISA kits are available for a wide range of diabetes and obesity biomarkers.

Highlight: Ghrelin and Obestatin

Ghrelin is a powerful appetite stimulant and plays an important role in energy homeostasis. Ghrelin is thought to regulate multiple activities, including hunger, reward perception via the mesolimbic pathway, gastric acid secretion, gastrointestinal motility, and pancreatic glucose-stimulated insulin secretion.

It was initially proposed that obestatin plays an opposing role to ghrelin by promoting satiety and thus decreasing food intake, but this action is still debated. Recent reports suggest multiple metabolic roles for obestatin, including regulating adipocyte function and glucose metabolism.

Cloud-Clone

Cloud-Clone: New targets for the treatment of obesity

The persistent imbalance between energyintake and energy consumption results inobesity, which causes acommon disorder called metabolic syndrome, with various comorbidities. These include type 2 diabetes, hypertension, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH), cardiovascular diseases and cancer, which may lead to death. Increased understanding of the mechanisms involved is urgently needed to find new drug candidates that boost weight loss and ameliorate metabolic syndrome.

Cloud-Clone can not only provide animal models of various metabolic disorders, including common diseases such as diabetes, hyperuric acid, hyperglycemia, and non-alcoholic fatty liver. It also has various metabolic disorders detection indicators and the above-mentioned new targets for obesity treatment (PZP, GRP78, UCP1, NF-κB, BMAL1, IL-17A, PPARγ) related products, which can help the majority of scientific researchers to carry out research related to the treatment of metabolic disorders.

GeneTex

GeneTex: Antibodies to study adipogenesis and insulin resistance

Obesity is characterized by increased lipid accumulation in adipocytes, leading to white adipose tissue hypertrophy, impaired lipolysis, and ectopic fat deposition in other tissues. Adipocytes are also highly active secretory cells, producing proteins and hormones that function well beyond metabolism. Type 2 diabetes is caused by obesity-driven insulin resistance in white adipose tissue, the liver, and skeletal muscle combined with impaired secretion of insulin by pancreatic β-cells. Understanding the molecular mechanisms that promote obesity-related diseases will accelerate the development of new therapeutic approaches for these often devastating conditions.

GeneTex is proud to offer an outstanding selection of antibodies to study adipogenesis, adipocyte biology, and insulin resistance signaling for obesity research. These antibodies are validated for various applications to facilitate your efforts in this exciting field.

Rockland

Rockland Immunochemicals: Obesity Research Tools and Pathways

Obesity, a condition often associated with metabolic diseases, has its roots in the fundamental biological functions of body fat. Body fat, or adipose tissue, originally evolved to play a critical role in energy storage, protecting delicate organs, and regulating reproduction through complex hormonal signals. Specialized cells known as adipocytes are responsible for storing energy in the form of lipid droplets. However, despite its important role, excess body fat can lead to severe health issues, including cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and an increased risk of certain cancers and type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Rockland's E-Book 'Obesity' gives an overview over the various factors that contribute to obesity as well as the research tools available for studying these pathways.
